13 June 2026, King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut

As ever, we were arriving early at King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut to make sure we caught all three bands on the bill for the night with pedalo the headline act who I had only recently became aware of thanks to looking for new Scottish bands to play on the weekly Echoes Of Scotland show.
pedalo
Having added their latest double EP to the collection the week before, the chance to see them play live for the first time was an opportunity not to be missed and they didn’t disappoint.

The Glasgow based dream-pop band are Charlotte Stuart on vocals, Callum Geddes with keyboards and vocal duties, Calum Steel on lead guitar, Beth Mackenzie on the drum stool and Nick Eadie on bass. I should also add that Nick provided the personal touch by hand delivering the EP to the house which was a good way to upsell the gig tickets!

It was perhaps unfortunate the gig was booked the same night as Scotland were due to play Haiti in the early hours of the next morning which potentially impacted on the turnout. However, by the time the band took to the stage, there was more than sufficient local support to make for an atmospheric show.
The main set list of nine songs comprised four tracks each from the Delicate Thing and Migration EPs with a nod too to the 2025 single She’s The Sun.
Keeping the football analogy in place, Charlotte led the line to good effect, bringing an ethereal quality to the lyrics while Callum offered the perfect vocal foil while displaying some nifty touches on the keyboard.
Both Calum and Nick stood almost statuesque in the middle of the stage as if nothing was going to get past them while providing the steady musical components that enabled Charlotte in particular to flourish. And at the back, Beth kept the tempo moving throughout the set. Every beat in its place allowing the band to follow.
The songs themselves though bore witness to a band who have the talent to write and play songs that should give them the time and space to grow and mature. The music scene in Scotland can be a fairly crowded place at times but pedalo look as if they have found the space to succeed in.
And as if to underline the significance of football on the night, all the band ran off stage before returning with various Scottish football tops from the recent past with Charlotte dressed fully as a large inflatable football. Add the customary kilted piper, they battered out a fine rendition of Loch Lomond which had everyone cheering and singing along to.
The perfect way to end a very successful night.

Support meep
Like all the acts on the bill, we were seeing meep for the first time. In reality, I wasn’t familiar with any of their songs until the first chords were struck. However, for the thirty or so minutes they were on stage though they certainly moved the dial from unknown to let’s explore more.
There was a sense of confidence across the band, happy in the knowledge that the audience were right behind them and the music they were playing.
The songs fitted easily into the indie guitar scene with a strong vocal offering and lead guitar work suggesting there was some real musical ability to back up the songwriting. Good songs. Good musicianship across all the band. meep are certainly a band worth exploring further.

Support Carsick Charlie
Apart from having some musical talent you also need a bit of bravado to walk onto a stage with maybe only a dozen people there to see you play. However, that was the prospect for Carsick Charlie as they opened up the show. Like a car which isn’t performing at it’s best, Carsick Charlie had a few challenges to overcome during their short set, most notably tuning the guitars for the individual songs they were due to play. Between each song there was some nervous energy being displayed, possibly the result of the silence and time taken to set themselves up for what was to follow.
In truth though, when they got going, the music spoke for itself. The songs were well structured and very likeable and everyone present was wishing them well. Another time, another place? I hope so even just to see if the gremlins have been exorcised.
