It’s the end of February and time to identify my favourite morning album during the last 28 days.
Win …Uh! Tears Baby (A Trash Pop Icon)
‘What I want is a super popoid groove
It’s the type of sort of thing that makes you want to move’
And with those opening lines, Davy Henderson and Win announced the 1987 album …Uh! Tears Baby (a Trash icon)
Looking back to the end of the 1980s, this is an album that should have transported Win into the pop stratosphere. As it is, it remains another lost indie pop classic.
The album resonates with cool, sophisticated class. There’s a slice of soul, a slice of indie, all from the same pie of danceable pop music.
And that’s before we even discuss one of the best soundtracks to one of the best adverts ever to appear on Scottish TV.
With ‘You’ve Got The Power’ as the soundtrack, allied to a video showcasing a dystopian world inspired by an Escher staircase, this became a marketing masterpiece for McEwan’s Lager.
Unfortunately, the ad overshadowed the rest of what remains a terrific album.
The album though is well worth a listen, and while there were a few contenders for the ‘Album of the Month’, this Wins (no pun intended) it for me.
Win only recorded one further album, Freaky Trigger, which is almost as good too.
