The latest gig on our A to Z Musical Tour was ……

Summer Nights at The Kelvingrove Bandstand have become a staple diet for many gig-goers over the past 10 years, with an eclectic mix of acts performing on stage to sold out audiences of 2,500.
Last night it was the turn of Australia’s The Teskey Brothers to strut their brand of soulful blues.
Until the lineup of artists was announced earlier this year, they were a completely unknown entity to me, and tickets were bought more on a whim than thoughts of ‘don’t want to miss them this time around’. What an inspired whim!!
On vocals, Josh Teskey is reminiscent of Motown greats like Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett. Soulful delivery doesn’t come any better after all these decades.
The set list was peppered with tracks from the band’s three albums and included several ‘new’ songs that blended into a perfect mix of toe tapping music with plenty of audience participation especially as the set drew to a close.
While it could be argued Josh ‘stole’ the show, it would be remiss not to mention the superb guitar playing of his brother Sam together with the outstanding backing of a formidable band of musicians brought together for the tour playing bass, drums, keyboards, trumpet and saxophone.
The musical arrangements across the set had to be applauded bringing studio recorded album tracks to life with opportunities for everyone on stage to shine.
As a collective, they brought rays of evening sunshine that Glasgow’s summer nights had threatened to dampen.
Before leaving stage the message was clear. The audience loved the Teskey Brothers and the Teskey Brothers loved Glasgow and thankfully confirmed that they will return.
Next time, any tickets bought will not be on a whim. We definitely don’t want to miss them.

Support Act
Grayling

Glasgow’s very own Grayling had been asked to support The Teskey Brothers and, for those who like their music with a country feel, she didn’t disappoint.
Delighted for once to be facing the audience at the Kelvingrove Bandstand rather than watching the acts on stage, her relatively short set was warmly received by a sizeable and appreciative audience. Lovely vocals with bass and pedal guitar support leant itself to a fine opening slot
Warm up DJ
Big thanks as ever to DJ Tam Coyle who kept the crowd entertained with some very apt music. Just what we needed as the heavens opened!
